The Arc of Grays Harbor provides Community Guide and Community Engagement services for clients receiving DDA services. These services allow people with disabilities the ability to access their community with the supports they need. Learn more about Community Guide/Engagement:

  • Community Guide services are designed to help children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities as they work towards achieving their personal goals.
  • The purpose of Community Guide services is to encourage self-determination and self-direction; increase participants’ ability to be involved and included in his/her community; and to help participants develop social networks and connections within their own community.
  • Community Guide services increase access to informal community supports. Community Guide is support that develops creative, flexible, and supportive community resources so waiver participants can meet a goal identified in the person-centered service plan.
  • Ratio of provider to client is 1:1.
  • The Community Guide program provides information and linkages to tailored resources that meet each individual’s unique needs and goals.

Who is eligible to receive Community Guide/Engagement services?

  • Individuals who are receiving services through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) who are Clients are on the Basic Plus and Core waivers. (Find more information about DDA services and how The Arc can help you apply for these services HERE.)

What is the process like for obtaining these services from The Arc once I have been approved by DDA?

The first step is to contact The Arc by phone at 360-537-7000 to set up an appointment. We will set up an appointment for you to meet with a Community Guide for an intake assessment. During this assessment, the Community Guide will ask questions to help them learn more about you, what you enjoy doing, your schedule and availability, your transportation needs, and what goals they can help you meet. With your help, the Community Guide will take into consideration your goals and preferences, your schedule, and the number of hours allocated by DDA and will create a calendar for you showing the dates and times that you will meet and what activity you will do together during that meeting. You will get a new calendar every month and will continue to update your goals as you progress.
