Family groups can provide a valuable source of support, connection, and fun for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. The Family Fun Club is a virtual social club that offers a range of activities and crafts that families can do together. The club focuses on building social skills, developing creativity, and having fun. Here are some benefits of family groups for people with IDD:

  • Provides support: Family groups can provide a safe and supportive environment where families can share experiences, seek advice, and provide emotional support to one another.
  • Builds social skills: Family groups can help individuals with IDD develop social skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, by providing opportunities to interact with peers and family members.
  • Promotes creativity: Engaging in creative activities such as crafts and games can help individuals with IDD develop their imagination and creativity.
  • Improves quality of life: Family groups can provide a fun and supportive environment that can improve the overall quality of life for individuals with IDD and their families.

Here are some of the types of activities that the Family Fun Club offers:

  • Crafts: Each month has a different theme, and participants can create crafts related to that theme. These crafts can help individuals with IDD develop their fine motor skills and creativity.
  • Games: The Family Fun Club offers a variety of games that families can play together. These games can help individuals with IDD develop their social skills and have fun with their family members.
  • Songs and activities: The club also includes songs and activities related to the monthly theme. These activities can help individuals with IDD develop their communication skills and creativity.

The Family Fun Club meets virtually via Zoom on the third Wednesday of the month from 2-3 pm. Registration is required to participate. By joining the Family Fun Club, families of loved ones with IDD can enjoy a fun and supportive environment where they can engage in activities together, build social connections, and make lasting memories.
