The Foodsters Dish Creations Club is a unique opportunity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to develop their kitchen skills and enjoy a shared meal with others. The club focuses on meal prep, allowing participants to take turns in the kitchen and learn about nutrition, food safety, and meal planning. In addition to building their culinary skills, participants can also develop their life skills, such as independence, confidence, and socialization.

Social interaction and life skills are essential for people with IDD, as they can improve their overall quality of life. Here are some benefits of social interaction and life skills for individuals with IDD:

  • Builds independence: Developing life skills such as cooking can help individuals with IDD become more independent and self-sufficient.
  • Boosts confidence: Learning new skills and accomplishing tasks can help individuals with IDD feel more confident and capable.
  • Enhances social skills: Participating in social activities such as the Foodsters Dish Creations Club can help individuals with IDD develop social skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Promotes healthy eating: Learning about nutrition and meal planning can help individuals with IDD make healthier food choices and improve their overall health.

Here are some of the types of activities that the Foodsters Dish Creations Club offers:

  • Meal prep: Participants take turns preparing different parts of the meal, learning about nutrition, food safety, and meal planning along the way.
  • Cooking techniques: Participants learn basic cooking techniques such as chopping, sautéing, and baking.
  • Socializing: Participants can enjoy a shared meal together, building social connections and friendships.

The Foodsters Dish Creations Club meets in person at The Arc office in Aberdeen, Washington on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. No registration is required to participate. By joining the Foodsters Dish Creations Club, individuals with IDD can enjoy a fun and supportive environment where they can develop their culinary and life skills, build social connections, and enjoy a delicious meal together.
